“Same Face, New League”

I’ve been fortunate enough to break down college football for the last eight years. When the elite coach conversation came up, there were two guys I always mentioned as the best in the business. That’s Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. I’ve always had respect for him as a coach and how his players always gravitated to him.  In 2014, he led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a National Title with a win over the Oregon Ducks. After the 2018 season, he decided to call it a career and went back into the broadcasting industry as an analyst. For a few weeks now, the rumors were swirling about Urban returning to coaching, but this time in the NFL. On Thursday, the Jacksonville Jaguars hired him to be their new head coach.

During his years as a college coach, Urban built up a reputation as a winner. At Bowling Green, he finished with a record of 17-6 in two seasons. When hired by Utah, the Utes lost two total games under Urban. He saw his most success in Gainesville as the head coach of the Florida Gators. A Heisman winner in Tim Tebow played under him and he won two National Titles. The Gators went 65-15 under Urban. After some years away from the sidelines, he’s back at Ohio State. He finished his tenure in Columbus with an 83-9 record. As a coach, his players love him and they leave everything on the field for him.

I’m glad he’s back coaching. For years, I said if there was one guy who would leave the college game for the NFL, it’d be Urban Meyer. The Jaguars have needed a guy that can bring discipline and a winning culture to the organization. He will have his work cut out for him.
