2022 Recap: It was year two under Head Coach, Steve Sarkisian. It’s safe to say that last year was an improvement compared to the 2021 season when they went 5-7 and finished with a 3-6 record in conference play. Let’s admit that meeting those preseason expectations in Austin has been a challenge. I remember watching them last year against the Alabama Crimson Tide in week two. If Quinn Ewers doesn’t get hurt, I’m sitting here talking about one of the biggest upsets in the sport. They finished in third place a year ago behind the TCU Horned Frogs and Kansas State Wildcats with an 8-5 record and they won six games in the Big-12. A huge part of their offensive success was Running Back, Bijan Robinson. The Longhorns fell short in the Alamo Bowl to the Washington Huskies to end their 2022 season.
Key Departures: RB Bijan Robinson, RB Roschon Johnson, LB DeMarvion Overshown
2023 Prediction: I’ll admit I’ve been back and forth with this division. I like the Texas Longhorns to finally live up to the lofty expectations and win the Big-12 championship. On paper, Steve Sarkisian’s team has everything in place to win double-digit games. Quinn Ewers is back under center and he’ll be throwing the football to All-American Wide Receiver, Xavier Worthy and star Tight End, Ja’Tavion Sanders. All five starters on the Offensive Line return this season and the defense made strides in 2022 and will look to build and improve even more in the fall. DeMarvion Overshown will be missed, but six starters return from the 2022 unit. The Longhorns should remain one of the top defenses in the Big-12 once again.
