West For The Winter

The name of Josh Gordon has been one that’s been in the news for the wrong reasons. He’s been suspended because of failed drug tests. Last September, he was acquired by the New England Patriots and had an immediate impact on the outside because the Patriots didn’t have a wide receiver that could create down the field. As the end of last season was approaching, he was facing another suspension. Josh decided to step away from football to focus on his mental health. This past August, the Patriots announced that they would bring Josh back for the upcoming season. In October, he was placed on injured reserved. Shortly after, he was released by the Patriots. Today, he was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks.

I can describe him all day if I wanted too. When his head is in the game, he’s a threat for any team he’s on. Their offense gets that “flash” with him (pun intended). He’s a big guy standing at 6’3 and weighing in at 225 pounds. He has phenomenal speed to release himself off the line of scrimmage and after he catches the ball, he’s good in the open field. I’ve seen him run those in routes that smaller receivers run. It’s incredible what he’s able to do for a guy his size. He’s excellent when it comes to breaking tackles. It’s almost as if he plays the wide receiver position as if he were a running back because he’s such a hard runner. Watch him closely next time and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Josh is a smooth route runner. He makes it look effortless at times when I see him play. He also displays great hand-eye coordination to stay focused on the ball along with staying in bounds. When he’s healthy, he’s a true number one option.

Adding him to the Seahawks makes the NFC West a lot more interesting. The 49ers are undefeated at 8-0, the defending NFC champions reside in this division (L.A. Rams), then you have the Seahawks who get a nice weapon to play alongside Russell Wilson who’s having the best year of his career. This should be fun. I really hope this works out and he keeps his head on straight because if he does, this will help the Seahawks for this stretch run of the season.
